Telling Stories Through Objects
unravelling the meaning of an 18th century quilt
by Jacq Barber

Jacq will be exploring how an anonymous patchwork coverlet can be read as a fascinating document about 18th century life. She is an expert on the History of Design from the 18th century to the post war years and has worked at Bonhams, the V&A and the National Trust.
Jacq currently lectures at Stroud College and also runs a part‐time on the History of Design and Decorative Arts at the Museum in the Park.

Mary will lead us on a 5½+ mile ramble, starting and finishing at
The Crown, Frampton Mansell. Some up and down but with long flat section along the canal.

Lunch after at The Crown, Frampton Mansell
We can choose from the menu before we set off for our walk.

Hailes Abbey and the Mystery of the Holy Blood
A talk by David Aldred

From 1270 to 1538 the Cistercian Hailes Abbey contained a shrine to a phial of Holy Blood which, on Dissolution, was declared a fake. What was the story behind the relic, the Abbey’s fortunes and its eventual destruction?

April RG – Uley, Cam Long Down, Uley Bury

Uley, Cam Long Down, Uley Bury

Angela & Jane will lead a 5.5 mile walk starting in the village of Uley. The route takes us through fields and footpaths around the base of Downham Hill, then up to the top of Cam Longdown with it’s far reaching views. Steep climbs up and down before final long, steep climb up to Uley Bury, before descending again to the village.

Some paths are likely to be wet and muddy so stout footwear essential and stick useful.
