April Walkers

Lunch at Egypt Mill

A description of the Nailworth & Avening ramble.

Angela and Jane lead eleven ramblers on a local walk starting in Nailsworth, climbing up from Wood Lane, past Rugger's Barn and onto Shipton's Grave Lane. We continued on, walking through fields of sheep, past streams and through woodland until we reached the West End area of Avening. From there we passed the local school and church and after crossing the stream, we climbed again to the higher level where we could see across to Gatcombe Park, Minchinhampton and Box. Before descending down into Nailsworth again, we walked through Rugger's Wood which in places was covered with bluebells.

We had been extremely fortunate with the weather for most of the way, but we did encounter a sharp downpour as we came down through the fields. However it didn't last long and we made good time to Egypt Mill where 20 members past and present enjoyed an excellent lunch.
