“Hauser & Wirth Somerset is a pioneering world-class gallery and multi-purpose arts centre, which acts as a destination for experiencing art, architecture and the remarkable Somerset landscape through new and innovative exhibitions of contemporary art. A landscaped garden, designed for the gallery by internationally renowned landscape architect Piet Oudolf, includes a 1.5 acre perennial meadow, which sits behind the gallery buildings.”

We will be given a 90 minute guided tour of both gallery and garden. Lunch or a lighter Brunch is available in the restaurant (check the website for details here) but booking is essential. It is also possible to take a picnic but this must be eaten in their Education Room as picnics are not allowed in the grounds- coffee/tea can be purchased to eat there.

“Owned by Mulberry founder and English designer Roger Saul, Kilver Court Gardens and Garden Nursery are housed within the grounds of a regenerated textile mill in the heart of Somerset, which is home to the Kilver Court Designer Village and restaurants.”

Hidden in the heart of Somerset are Kilver Court gardens which are carefully maintained all year round for the public to enjoy. The 3.5 acre gardens are set against a 19th Century viaduct, providing an impressive architectural backdrop to the already stunning gardens. Highlights of our gardens include: a reproduction of George Whitelegg’s Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal winning rockery, parterre, an organic vegetable garden, herbaceous borders and a mill pond.

In the new garden nursery Roger aims to provide a total experience for garden lovers. There will be an eclectic mix of the very best herbaceous, alpine and subtropical plants for sale which Roger has found by scouring the country and selecting from specialist plant suppliers and growers.  Many of these plants will also be featured in the garden’s newly restored borders and visitors can be inspired by plant combinations, colours and settings. Customers will also be able to browse the shop, stocked with garden tools, antiques and outdoor furniture.

Details of this trip can be seen on the notice board in the reception area at the library and you can add your name to the list in the Tourist Office or contact Heather if you would like to come. Timings and other information will be sent out nearer the date.

Please would all those signed up now pay for the trip. The cost is £20 to include entrance fees and coach travel. Payment may be made by sending a cheque to Marjorie or by Internet transfer – please contact Marjorie for details. Please make it clear if doing a bank transfer who the payment is coming from by writing your name in the reference box.

June GG – Daglingworth House Garden Visit

For those that have signed up:

Cars will leave from outside the library at 1.45 pm.
You will be contacted later this week if we would like to take you up on your offer of transport,  otherwise lifts will be allocated on the day. If you wish to go straight to the garden please let me know so that we do not wait for you.
Please have £6 exactly ready for the entrance fee which Marjorie will collect in Nailsworth. There are no teas available at this garden but plenty of places in Cirencester and of course The Jolly Nice Café on the way home.

July ACMG, GG – Rousham House visit

Our trip to Rousham is coming up on July 18th and the list for signing is already on the board in the library. There are still some places left, but not all that many, so if you would like to come please sign up as soon as possible.

We aim to leave for Rousham at 9.30 on the 18th July from the bus station but may be able to do a pick up from Woodchester if people would like. Cost is £9 for the coach, £10 to visit the house (guided tour by owner) and garden and £5 to visit just the garden. There is no shop or cafe so you will need to bring a packed lunch to eat in the grounds.

As Burford garden centre won’t let us take a coach there we are now going to stop on the homeward journey in Bourton On The Water for about an hour to give people time to see round the model village if they would like and have a cup of tea, getting back to Nailsworth about 5.30pm.

If you are coming to the June 6th talk could you please bring your payment for the trip then.

Schedule of Classes

 Class 1      Daffodils – 3 yellow flowers in a vase
Three flowers of any variety of daffodil featuring the colour yellow on the petals or the trumpet. Flowers must be of the same variety, not mixed.

Class 2      Daffodils – 3 white flowers in a vase
Three flowers of any variety of daffodil featuring the colour white on the petals or the trumpet. Flowers must be of the same variety.

Class 3      Daffodil – single flower
A single bloom of any variety of daffodil.

Class 4      Tulips – 3 flowers in a vase
Three flowers of any variety of tulip. Flowers must be of the same variety, not mixed.

Class 5      Tulip – single flower
A single bloom from any variety of tulip.

Class 6      Spring Bulbs – 3 flowers in a vase
Three flowers of any spring bulbs other than tulips or daffodils. Flowers must be of the same variety.

Class 7      Bits & Pieces from the Garden
May include foliage, flowers, berries & stems. Credit is given for the variety of specimens in the arrangement. Formal arrangements are not given extra credit.

Class 8      Foliage
An arrangement of at least 2 different varieties of foliage only. Credit is given for contrasting colours & form.

Class 9      Herbs
A posy of different herbs. Entries can be tied or in a vase. Credit is given for the variety of specimens

Class 10    House Plant
May be a flowering or non-flowering house plant. Where it is usual to plant a number of corms, tubers or bulbs in a pot to give a good effect, this will also qualify for this class.
